Title: Presentation and discussion of the ASU School of Sustainability report titled "Sustainability and Waste in Apache Junction." City staff will present the December 2016 report which was prepared by students from Dr. Nalini Chhetri Fall 2016, School of Sustainabilty class 594/498. The primary purpose of the study was to assist Apache Junction in creating a more robust set of policies and procedures to improve city-wide solid and household hazardous waste collection. The report included reviewing current policies and ordinances, analyzing the city’s current solid waste program, highlighting the waste management programs of three comparable cities and towns in the Phoenix metro; providing best practices offered by the Waste Management Policy tool of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and providing constructive recommendations towards a sustainable waste management system for the city.
