Public Art Commission Planning Workshop to include a presentation and discussion of the following topics with Dianne Cripe of Artspace6, LLC:
1) Review what is public art, what art can do for Apache Junction, and review public art examples
a. View and discuss Sarah Sze video of La Guardia airport installation
2) Provide a broad overview of public art plans, define a “public art plan,” present information gathered on public art plans from other communities for cities of similar size
a. Present an overview of elements within a public art plan
3) Review consultant prepared Powerpoint slides of public art responding to community goals
a. Show slides of public art examples and discuss generic sites for public art with examples
4) Developing a Public Art Master Plan
a. Review city ordinances as they relate to a Public Art Master Plan
b. Review slides that pertain to public art planning
c. Discuss commissioner’s hopes for what public art can accomplish in Apache Junction
d. Distribute handout of aerial city view and individual sites, such as the dog park and other parks. In small groups, commissioners will discuss the pros and cons of each, then prioritize sites for public art projects. Each group presents their ideas. Come to consensus.
e. Incorporation into Work Plan
5) Wrap-up and conclusion of Public Art Commission Planning Workshop to include a synopsis of items 1-4 above and presentation and discussion of next steps in producing a Public Art Master Plan.
